If the data retention option is set, all session-related information will be deleted after the selected time. This includes sessions, session data, and visitor data.

But doesn't include the conversation messages?

Conversation messages are part within the session itself. So when sessions are deleted, the messages are also removed.

@Himanshu, one more question about this: If we select data retetion option to 30 days, will it affect the statistics. In other words does the deleted messages still count to the statistics?

Yes, it will affect the stats. If data retention is set to 30 days, the data will be deleted. Since statistics rely on that data, once it is removed the statistics will no longer be available.
